Job Requirements
Labor and Delivery Services experience required.NCC Fetal Monitoring and NRP Certifications preferred. Knowledge in Nursery/NICU services desired. Position requires computer skills.The clinical educator functions in the role of expert clinician and educator. In collaboration with the organizational development educator, nursing staff, clinical nurse specialist (CNS) and nursing managers, monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care, staff satisfaction, patient satisfaction and patient outcomes for day, night and weekend staff. Incorporated within each of these role functions, the clinical educator is a role model, patient advocate, change agent, leader and cost effective practitioner. Has educational responsibility for unit specific quality measures.Essential AccountabilitiesClinical Activities
Functions as a clinical educator for the assigned nursing area modeling expert clinical nursing practice
Regularly makes unit rounds to remain familiar with patients and staff within her/his assigned areas of service in order to assist and provide direction to nursing staff regarding clinical decision making   priority setting
Collaborates with organizational development educator CNS, nursing staff, nurse manager and other members of health care team to identify and address clinical education needs in assigned area(s) of responsibility
Critically evaluates the knowledge, skills and clinical judgment of nursing staff and develops education plans to improve clinical practice for individual staff and for the entire clinical area, as needed.
Ensures appropriate orientation and clinical training of newly hired and transferred staff. Identifies training needs and initiates appropriate training in collaboration with organizational development educator, CNS, nursing staff, nurse manager and other members of health care team.
Instructs staff in the utilization of patient/family educational and care protocols and materials.
Ensures that documentation of staff orientation, unit based inservices and one-to-one education is maintained.
Provides input for staffâs performance appraisal and competency, as requested.
Assesses unit education needs, specific to patient population and develops and implements educational services accordingly.Educational Responsibilities
Designs, implements and evaluates educational programs in collaboration with the Education Specialist, CNS, nursing staff and unit managers in order to augment staff expertise and enhance patient/family education in assigned areas.
Demonstrates curriculum development by writing appropriate lesson plans, behavioral objectives and content for educational programs/inservices based on current research findings
Utilizes evidence-based practice to plan educational interventions and in assessing current standards of practice/standards of care.
Assists with the development, communication and implementation of established standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Offers regular feedback, guidance and support to staff.
Provides point of service staff education that includes one-to-one and unit based insevices, as needed, to address identified nursing practice needs/deficits
Provides remedial education to staff as indicated by clinical performance and/or managerâs request.Other Duties
Performs other duties specific to role and clinical specialtyEssential Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesCertification, Registration, or Licensure:Current Nevada R.N. license, current CPR, specialty certification as required (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc)Minimum Education:Masters Degree in Nursing or related area preferred; Consideration will be given if BSN/MSN in progress.Minimum Experience:Five years of current clinical experience in clinical area.
