5 to 10 years experience in materials management with at least the last 3 years in the role of a Commodity Manager or related strategic procurement position. Demonstrated understanding of the global manufacturing process and the ability to speak effectively to supplier groups on a daily basis is essential. Good problem solving, analytical and database skills are essential for resolving emergency material needs, identifying the root cause of problems and analyzing supplier performance.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Job:
This position will be responsible for obtaining the most cost effective worldwide and local arrangements for wire rope and gearboxes by employing creative skills in market research, negotiation, supplier selection and supplier performance monitoring. 
This is a strategic position - not tactical. Prior strategic sourcing in the heavy equipment or heavy equipment supplier industry is a must. There will be a structured on-boarding and training program but this person must have the knowledge base of gear manufacturing process to be successful in this role. 
Position Requirements: 
Develop an understanding of the product offerings available, technological developments and general pricing trends of the market by utilizing many different sources. Then documenting findings for use in supplier negotiation planning efforts. 
Enter negotiation with appropriate suppliers to develop worldwide and local agreements on pricing, service, and quality levels to be provided. Organize negotiations to include a clear objective, a complete bid package (including any necessary engineering drawings, blueprints and/or specifications), quotes from available suppliers (including warranty and labor reimbursement terms), and necessary input from other operations and departments. Finalize terms and conditions offered by each supplier and perform value analysis of alternatives for use in the final selection process.
