Job Description:
MWH is seeking qualified applicants for Senior level, Supervising/Lead or Principal Structural Engineering positions. These positions could be located in any of our U.S. offices in Chicago, Denver, Bellevue WA, Walnut Creek CA or Sacramento CA, or our Canadian offices in Toronto ON or Vancouver BC. In this position, the applicant will independently perform assignments and lead a team of engineers in the selection, evaluation and application of structural engineering principles and techniques on reinforced concrete and structural steel systems primarily, but also aluminum, masonry, timber, and other materials. In addition, the applicant will collaborate with other technical professionals on project teams. Leadership responsibilities will include budgeting and management of budgets and schedules, review of invoices, participation in proposal work, and the development and nurturing of client relationships. Work will primarily be focused on heavy civil projects for public and private sector clients. Projects may include large concrete and RCC dams, hydroelectric powerhouses, hydraulic structures, shoreline revetment programs, water control structures such as spillways, intakes and outlets, and navigation projects as well as underground work including rock and soft ground tunnels, shafts and caverns. This position will entail field activities including site inspections, shop inspections, monitoring and other fieldwork. Primary duties are expected to include power plant system design and studies to support mechanical plant systems, including building service and plant dewatering systems, auxiliary systems for hydroelectric power plant, pumping plants and renewable power developments, preparation and review of mechanical equipment specifications, power plant mechanical system feasibility studies, due diligence reviews for asset transfer, condition assessment of mechanical equipment, and supervision of mechanical equipment installation, repairs and tests. Applicant must have experience with balance of plant equipment and auxiliary mechanical systems for hydroelectric and pumping plants. The successful candidates will work with a multidiscipline group of engineers and technicians providing technical services to public and private sector clients including corporate marketing and business development activities. Primary duties are expected to include power system design and studies to support transmission systems, hydroelectric powerplant and renewable power developments, review of electrical equipment specifications, power system feasibility studies, due diligence reviews for asset transfer, condition assessment of electrical equipment, and supervision of electrical equipment installation, repairs and tests. HV and EHV transmission and substation design experience is a must. Working knowledge of power systems analysis software is required. Applicant must have experience with balance of plant equipment for hydroelectric powerplants, switchgear (low and medium voltage), isolated phase bus, distribution and main power transformers, low voltage distribution switchboards, and protective relaying and metering. Experience should also include electrical power systems for generation, transmission and distribution, cabling (cable trays and conduits) and wiring, lighting, motor control centers, communications systems, grounding and lightning protection, etc. Extensive knowledge of NEC is required.
