We currently have a position for a Senior Research Chemist within our Process Research department at our Rahway, NJ location of Merck Research Laboratories.Under the direction of a senior department member, the Sr. Research Chemist will be responsible for designing, discovering and developing synthetic approaches to novel drug candidates. The Senior Research Chemist will have access to state of the art facilities and will conduct independent research as a member of a project team with the objective to develop highly efficient processes for the synthesis of challenging target molecules. 
Qualifications
Ph.D. in organic chemistry, or equivalent in experience is required. Post-doctoral training is highly desirable. Prefer a candidate who has specialized in synthetic methods development, reaction mechanisms, and/or physical organic chemistry. Provides technical support for Black Widow Spider Antivenin and ELSPAR manufacturing for the West Point vaccine areas. In this position, the incumbent will be expected to provide technical support to daily manufacturing operation, develop and execute project plans. Obtains and analyzes relevant data and prepares appropriate reports and presentations for communications. Responsible and results-oriented. Accomplishes goals efficiently and with high quality. The assigned problems may involve some kind of complexity and will require knowledge and independent thinking to create a focus. Applies technical expertise to advance business goals Identifies and implements technology-driven productivity improvements. Qualifications

The successful candidate will join the Cancer Biology   Therapeutics Department where they will use cutting-edge molecular, biochemical and cellular biology techniques to support the development of novel cancer therapies. Qualifications
Qualifications include a BS degree, strong technical skills and experience in cell and molecular biology techniques.
